We are delighted to announce that Simon’s work in Education and the Orchid Project has been recognised with an MBE in the 2013 New Year’s Honours List. Simon said today “This is recognition for my fantastic team of students at Writhlington who have achieved so much over the last twenty years and for all those who have supported our work both in the UK and abroad.”Simon Pugh-Jones MBE with Laelia anceps in the School Greenhouse
A traditional Christmas holiday job at Writhlington is finishing repotting the Pleiones. We have found that plants do particularly well when the pots are topped with fresh moss and so to pot them we half bury the bulbs in compost before adding the moss.Pleione grandiflora with the moss half done
Happy Christmas an best wishes for 2013 from all of us here. The greenhouse is full of winter favourites like this lovely Laelia anceps var. veitchiana and packed with flower spikes full of promise for the spring. Not surprisingly our rain water tank is full!
Prosthecheas are in bloom like normal yet there is a new member of the Prosthechea family that has decided to show its flower. This is a beautiful prosthechea vitellina.
We are pleased to announce that Zygopetalum time has arrived in the Writhlington greenhouse. This Zygopetalum maculatum is wonderfully fragrant as well as drop dead gorgeous. Come and see them for yourself at orchid Christmas.
