A bit of a late upload but oh well – it’s relevant! Quite a while ago we had a day with Films for learning, a project that allowed students from outside the orchid project to come and spend a day filming us at work. It was great fun for all involved and everything in the four films now in the media libraries, yep, including the music, was designed, created and put together in less than the 6 hour school day!
Have a look through the media libraries for a “Films for orchid learning” insight into our micropropagation techniques!
The academic year of 2008/2009 is drawing to a close. What a year we’ve had! From Chelsea to Sikkim, London to smaller local shows. It’s been a brilliant year for us and we’re all hoping that next year will bring more excitement and unexpected to the project (we like it that way!).
I’m sure I’ll be updating the Dates pages with dates for your calender over the summer holiday. Of course – plant’s don’t stop when school does so we’ll be in each day to water.
Next year we’ll be off to London orchid show again, as well as the Botanic Gardens Conservation International conference in Durban, South Africa. We’ve also got local shows coming up next year including one at the Welsh Botanic Garden and the Bristol University Botanic Garden. We should also have a redesign active in the early stages of the new year.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank you all for watching, reading and keeping up with me with exams etc. It’s been a great year and I hope that I’ll see you all for the next 3 years. No idea what then – hopefully I’ll be able to train someone else, but that’s a story for another day!

With OCI finished, our Year 11s now free of, well, everything and generally less ‘proper work’ to do we can get back to production. Much has been happening in the Labs over the past week in that a huge pile of empty jars has appeared – now a large proportion are full!
Greenhouse tidying and cleaning has also been taking place as well as organising a delivery of fresh seedling kits to the Eden Project.
In general this time of year consists of production making it very nice as we can see a rapid shrinkage of space on the shelves in the lab. The downside, however, is that it isn’t particularly interesting to write about!
