Phalaenopsis hieroglyphica – 365 days of orchids – day 1852

This Phalaenopsis species with a great name (it means the Phalaenopsis with hieroglyphs) is a species we have had in the collection for more than thirty years. We find it one of the smaller growing Phalaenospsis species and pretty tough (hence its longevity through boiler failures, storms and variable culture)

Phalaenopsis hieroglyphica is native to the Philippine islands of Polillo and Palawan where it grows in warm lowland forests. We find it enjoys a shady spot in our Warm Asia section (min 17C) where it flowers on and off throughout the year successively on long lived flower spikes.
