Rainforest DRAGeN win runners up trophy in the Amazon Longitude Explorer Prize

Year 11 students at Mendip are celebrating winning the runners up prize in the national tech innovation competition run by Amazon. Six students Joe, Otto, Alex, Amalia, Jake and Ed were commended by the judges for their idea of electronics kits for rainforests schools, with impressive outreach to schools and communities in Rwanda, Sarawak and Peru.

The prize of £5000 will be shared between the students and also provide the first generation of kits that we will be sharing with partner schools next year. Thanks to all those who voted for the team.

Jake said afterwards “it has been a great opportunity to work on the project. I found it enjoyable and I feel it was good experience for the kind of jobs I would like to do. I am amazed that we have won the runners up prize against teams from schools right across the UK.”
