Pleurothallis dolichopus – 365 days of orchids – day 1599

This floriferous small to medium sized species makes a lovely show twice a year with its relatively large and numerous flowers. The edges of the sepals have little hairs and turned back tips that make the flowers well worth a closer look.

Pleurothallis dolichopus is found all through Central America from Mexico in the north, down to Colombia and Ecuador. The species grows in wet forests from 1300-1600m and we find that the succulent leaves are quick to shrivel if under watered although they plump up again afterwards.

We find plants do best in pots and grow best when natural moss appears on the bark compost.

We have a couple of divisions available at the shop at time of writing.
