Phalaenopsis fasciata – 365 days of orchids – day 1659
This lovely Phalaenopsis species is native to the Philippines where it is found in warm evergreen forests at around 500m altitude. As a result it appreciates a shaded spot in our warm Asia section where it produces its long lived flower spikes that flowers for many years
The spikes also produce Keikis (small plants) that can be removed and grown once they have established root systems.
As well as their dramatic stripes, the flowers are fragrant and smell of roses.
