More Cattleya coccinea
We featured Cattleya coccinea as orchid of the day on January 15th but we now have three different clones in full flower and I felt we needed to share the spectacle.
These seed grown plants are a wonderful reminder of our expeditions to Brazil (photo of the species in Brazil below) and a real lesson in replicating native habitat conditions for good culture. As you can see we grow plants mounted and in baskets hanging high in our Cool Americas section where we can keep them cool, bright wet and windy – just like the ridges of the Organ Mountains.

We have pollinated flowers today to raise more seed, have seedlings in-vitro, and a few seedlings established in pots.
