Why WSBE Orchids

I have been asked by several people what WSBE stands for and I thought it was time to explain this element of the thirty year history of the Orchid Project.

Our comprehensive school here in the village of Writhlington, on the outskirts of the town of Radstock, has been through several name changes. These changes have followed the political flavour of the time and opportunities to provide the best for our students.

I joined Writhlington school as a teacher in 1989 and in the early 2000s it became Writhlington School of Business and Enterprise with a business and Enterprise specialism driven by the Orchid Project (Hence WSBE) with a change of head we became the Writhlington Academy, and now we are two schools; Writhlington School and the Mendip Studio School (a new 14-18 STEM school again significantly driven by the Orchid project)- we are reluctant to change the website and emails as we have such a following 🙂
We now call ourselves either
The Orchid project – to people who know us
or The Writhlington and Mendip Studio Schools’ Orchid Project – to people who need a little more explanation.
We expect to be called something different again in the future but will always be an exciting mix of students, orchids, labs, partners in the UK and abroad, exploration, horticulture, science and conservation – hoorah
