Pleurothallis allenii – 365 days of orchids – day 1337
This small growing pleurothallis is remarkable for its large flowers that are deep red with a yellow edges on the petals. This is the first time we have featured it on 365 days of orchids.
The species is endemic to Panama where it is found in forest from 500-1000m which makes it one of our warmer growing Pleurothallis species. The leaves are thin and only 8cm long so this is almost a miniature and well squeezing in to any collection. The flowers are long lasting and will be appearing between the leaves between now and Christmas.
