I feel very fortunate living in Frome where my daily hour of exercise is enough to visit the ancient woodland of Asham Woods. 20 minutes by bike each way, leaves twenty minutes to wonder at the wood’s April flowers. I thought I would share them with you.
First of course is the carpets of Bluebells through the coppice woodland – it is a particularly fantastic show this year, possibly due to the mild wet winter.
Amongst the Bluebells, the Early Purple Orchids are just coming into flower.
The flowers on Herb Paris are also really fresh.
The wood anemones and primroses are nearly over but still beautiful.
White flowers in abundance – Ramsons, Woodruff, Greater Stitchwort and Garlic Mustard.
…and so many more; Lady’s smock, Wood Spurge, Sweet Violet, Lesser Celandine and Toothwort.
The Bike ride was great exercise too. I do hope that you enjoy your exercise hour today.
