plocoglottis acuminata – 365 days of orchids – day 945
Plocoglottis acuminata is an orchid we first met yesterday in Mulu national park and saw again today outside one of Mulu’s famous caves.
The species is a terrestrial of hot lowland forest and we found it growing in shade below the canopy.
It has prominent white spots on the leaves and it has been suggested that these are evolved to deter animals from eating the leaves by making them appear diseased.
