Dendrobium acerosum – 365 days of orchids – day 946

We found this delightful little dendrobium around our hotel and in Mulu National Park. The plant above was growing on the edge of the Penan Village we stopped off at on our trip up theĀ Melinau Paku River.

Plants have terete leaves off a pseudobulb that is a thin stem above a swollen base and, as you can see, can produce a profusion of flowers.

The species is found across South East Asia and in Mulu we found it growing as an epiphyte in open areas near the river. We found it on trees and palms generally in bright light, and of course high temperatures with year round rainfall.
