365 days of orchids – day 394 – Masdevallia chaetostoma
Another new species for 365 days is this tiny masdevallis species native to Ecuador. The plant produces 3cm leaves and 6cm flower spikes each with 2-10 pretty little white and yellow flowers each a cm across.
The species comes from really cool, wet cloud forests from 2000-3000 and so we keep the plants cool, wet and shady in Cool Americas. We grow plants successfully both mounted and in 3cm pots and they respond by bulking up quite quickly so they should be quick to propagate by division.
