Seeds in the lab

We have been very busy in our new propagation lab since we moved in two months ago, managing to re-plate 2000 jars since then. We are also busy sowing seed like this Coelogyne cristata seed we sowed today. The picture shows Ed and I sowing the seed; we sterilised the seed pod in bleach, then we used a sterile scalpel to cut off the end of the seed pod and shook some of the seed into sterile jars of agar. The plants should be ready to de-flask in about 2 years and should flower 3 to 4 years after that. (Don’t worry, you don’t have to hold your breath). I will use the blog to let you know how the plants develop.
