365 days of orchids – day 73 – Stelis brunnea

We have been delighted to feature several Stelis species on 365 days. Although nearly all have rather small flowers they are bourn in profusion and give a lovely display.

This is Stelis comes from cloud forest in Ecuador and its delicate white flowers open and close as with the humidity in the greenhouse – they like it damp and the many spikes produced from both old and new growths produce a cloud of loveliness above plant.

All our Stelis species live in Cool Americas (min12C) and are kept damp all year and shaded in the summer.
