WSBEorchids

365 days of orchids – day 168 – Pleurothallis sarracenia

This remarkable species is pollinated by ants and as result has flowers tight to the bark it grows on with just a small opening at none end just big enough for and ant.

The species is native to the Mata Atlantica in Brazil where it grows in cool cloud forest presumably surrounded by ants.
