365 days of orchids – day 113 – Stelis biserrula

This species is our most vigorous Stelis species which flowers as a small plant but rapidly makes a specimen by developing new growths (keikis) on top of leaves as well as masses of flower spikes.

The flowers on our clone are green and very long lasting for a Stelis and this plant was in flower at the London Orchid Show at the March but still has lots of flowers still to come.

It is native to South American cloud forests from 1000-3000m altitude and so is very at home in our Cool Americas Section (min 12C) with lots of water throughout the year.
