Repotting success
We have had an amazing time over the last couple of weeks with our team from the UK, however I must say much quieter at KCCEM now. Work continues here and we recently checked on our repotted orchids which we changed to better more aerated compost as their roots were not looking healthy. As you can see by the picture below new healthy roots are growing which is really promising to see.
Do you make your own compost or is it ready to buy?
We collected our compost from the site of KCCEM. We sources charcoal from the kitchens and fine wood chip from a recently cut down tree. We have our student Jean Luc to thank helping us source the compost.
I bought from yourselves at a function a couple of months back the orchid Pleurothallis gracillima – a tiny specimen. I did not at the time obtain instructions for future care. I really must re-pot; we have some “orchid potting bark” which we could use. Is this a satisfactory medium and do you have you any points you can offer please on care after re-potting? It will be fine in the current pot for at least a year. It is a species from south amaerican cloud forest – so shady and minimum 12C – ideally amoungst other plants – bathroom/kitchens good
Really good to see, it may be quieter but you haven’t long left now so make the most of it .we are looking forward to the Rwandan night when you return
