It’s alive!!!
Amazing news from the Writhlington Lab – the mycorrhiza isolated by Chloe, Emily and Rosie have survived cryopreservation in liquid nitrogen. The three who have based their research work on methods used at Kew are testing protocols to store orchid mycorrhiza in liquid nitrogen and then ‘bring them back to life’ on recovery media.
Three mycorrhiza named Fred, Herbert and Egbert (don’t ask me ask the girls) spent time at -196 degrees a week ago but are definitely back with their hyphae growing out across their Petri dishes.
You can find out about the girls’ work at our Christmas Orchid Festival and Craft Fair on Saturday 13th December (10am to 4pm).
